Janet Souster who works in Bamako, Mali returned to the office after her holiday to find that things were rather difficult at the office!
I was only gone a month! How is it then, that when I got back to Bamako our home phone wasn’t working (again!), the wireless internet hub had been struck by lightning so no e-mail is possible from home, my new car wouldn’t start, my computer wouldn’t boot up properly, and my work computer was full of ants?! The last problem was very serious as there were ants or their eggs, or other unmentionable deposits, sitting under the “P” key (no comments on the choice of letter please!), which made the computer think I was constantly pressing P and it tried to type it everywhere! If I managed to type my password before Ps got into it, any document I opened immediately had rows of Ps rapidly appearing in it! In Outlook the cursor went to the first e-mail message beginning with P and stuckthere! We managed to get some ants out and sometimes it worked for a while but then P-mania started again! In the end we had to send it back to the States to be repaired! Fortunately it’s only four months old so it could be repaired under warranty. Be grateful for your orderly, ant-less lives!
