Literacy for Life

November 25th, 2009 by Mark

Wycliffe members from around Europe are currently training at the Wycliffe UK Centre with the European Training Programme, in preparation for serving overseas in language projects. Some are training in order to take up internships as linguists or language assessors, while others are preparing to help coordinate literacy projects or encourage the use of translated scriptures.

For the past couple of weeks, those being trained in literacy and scripture use work have been learning how to hold a workshop to enable people to produce short books and other literacy materials in their own language.

But the best way to learn is always by doing, so last week we had the opportunity of seeing the fruits of the big, and not so big books producd by the participants!

Please pray for the participants as many of them prepare to go overseas in the new year. Pray also for the language groups they’ll be serving alongside – that literacy skills and the opportunity to read scripture portions will be a huge blessing to the whole community.

To see some of the theory put in to practise, take a look at these resources produced for nine languages in the north of Tanzania.

Wonderful, I analyse such bad news all day long that to read this fills my heart with gladness.

God will go before them and with them!

  3. Thanks for this post. It is neat to not only hear about this training but to see through pictures faces and books.

The practical outcome of the Tanzania books through the Pubols was icing on the cake.

    Thanks and blessings.
