49 years on and still going strong

July 3rd, 2008 by Mark

John mentioned last week that Mary Steele was recently interviewed by Northern Irish broadcaster UTV about the Bible translation work she has done over many decades in West Africa.

In the interview she talks about how she went and lived with the Konkomba people in Ghana, learnt their language and worked with them to translate the Bible and start a literacy programme.

Nowadays the emphasis is much more on the local community being responsible for the work rather than Wycliffe workers having responsibility for the entire project. Mary’s current role as a translation consultant is one of many ways in which expatriate workers can use their skills and experience alongside mother-tongue translators.

Take a look at the video, which is a testimony to Mary’s devotion and her love for “the work, the people and the Lord!”
