Laari Language Learning

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Jessica is a Language Surveyor working in Congo (Brazzaville, as opposed to DRC). After learning the trade language, Lingala, she has decided to start learning one of the local languages in the area she’s living – Laari.

Her latest blog post gives an interesting insight into what it’s like to learn a language, and culture, that is completely different to your mother tongue, as well as the value of connecting with people in their heart language.

If learning just a few words of someone’s heart language can make such a connection, what impact would God speaking through scripture have on people who are used to Christianity only being in a foreign language?

Take a look at Jessica’s post, and don’t despair if language learning sounds like the last thing you would choose to do – you can still be involved in what God is doing amongst minority peoples by supporting the work with your non-language skills!
