European Training Programme (ETP)
Prepare to meet the world
Wycliffe believes good preparation is essential for mission service, whether at home or abroad.
Training, which we see as a major part of this preparation, is offered by the European Training Programme (ETP) in partnership with Wycliffe Bible Translators and can be taken in the UK where the language of instruction is English.
Detailed information about courses, applications, visas, staff and other training locations is available on the ETP website.
Courses are designed to teach the skills necessary for learning new languages, for describing unwritten languages, and for literacy and translation work as well as for associated specialist ministries.
Although examples and illustrations from many world languages and cultures are drawn on extensively in nearly all ETP courses, no particular languages are taught. Rather, the relevant courses teach general principles basic to the study of any language and culture.
The European Training Programme recognises that not everyone learns best in the same way. Teachers therefore utilise a variety of techniques during course instruction. Moreover, for the majority of courses, the teaching methodology also employs adult learning principles in the hope of remaining stimulating and enjoyable.
Selected courses on offer include:
- Language and Culture Acquisition
- Assignment Related Training
- MA Field Linguistics
- MA Literacy Programme Development
- More courses
The European Training Programme is running two workshops on learner-centred cross-cultural learning in 2012:
