Two Bible verses changed Komlan’s life forever.
Imagine what a whole Bible could do.
‘I was an alcoholic, rejected by the village,’ Komlan admits.
Komlan giving his testimony to his Ifè community in Togo Friendless, he wandered the streets, taking on occasional farming jobs to survive in his Ifè community in Togo.
After one sweltering day labouring in the fields, Komlan earned 1,000 Francs (£1.30). That day, he didn’t spend his wages on alcohol.
‘I went and bought the Ifè New Testament,’ recounts Komlan. ‘I began to read it. One day I read Matthew 5:13–14, which says, “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.”
‘And I asked myself in what way could I be the salt and the light of my village? I was rejected by everyone, despised by all!’
But God had a plan.
Reading Jesus’ gentle words in the language he could understand changed Komlan’s heart – ‘I gave my life to the Lord Jesus Christ, because of what I was reading.’
From that day, Komlan gave up drinking and gradually won back the trust of his community.
Today, he helps run a Sunday school and leads the local development committee, which provided the whole village with its first well.
Komlan’s life was transformed as he read the Ifè New Testament By a work of God, through just two Bible verses in his language, Komlan’s life has been transformed.
‘What I read in Matthew 5:13–14 has been accomplished in my life,’ rejoices Komlan. ‘I have become salt and light to my village! I weep with joy and I give infinite thanks.’
It demonstrates again the power of the Bible to change a heart. The impact those verses had on Komlan was life-transforming.
But Komlan and his whole community – like millions around the world – are still waiting for a complete Bible in their own language.
A rural road in Togo Bible translation doesn’t just share words – it unlocks the opportunity for people to come to know Jesus. Join us in bringing the Bible closer to those still waiting. Verse by verse, heart by heart.
