We are pleased to invite you to our next Wycliffe Bitesize on Tuesday 25 November from 7:30–8:15pm.

Wycliffe Bitesize events are short, online webinars, and are specifically designed for anyone who is considering opportunities to serve with Wycliffe. At each event you will hear from someone in Wycliffe about a particular role or part of a translation programme. And there’s always plenty of time for questions.

In this Bitesize

In this Bitesize, the topic will be Language and Society’. We’ll take a look at the minority communities with whom we mainly work. In addition, we’ll consider how they use multiple languages to deal with the world – and the impact this has on their use of Scripture. We’ll also look at the Multilingualism Assessment Tool, which is being used to help churches and communities think about what effect multilingualism could have on their use of Scripture and what they should translate.

Our speaker, Maik, heads up sociolinguistics (the study of language in relation to social factors) for Wycliffe’s primary partner organisation, and he will talk about applying the principles of sociolinguistics to real-life issues in translating and using the Bible. He has a background in translation and training, and has spent much of the past two years training people to use the Multilingualism Assessment Tool.
