What is a Wycliffe church representative?

Church representatives play a vital role in the Bible translation movement. They do this by encouraging their churches to pray for translation programmes around the world and helping their churches contribute to the work of Bible translation. They connect Wycliffe and the local church, sharing prayer needs, praising God for wonderful answers to prayer, and keeping the church informed of relevant events and opportunities. 

From giving out copies of our Words for Life magazine, to organising a fundraising event – you can decide what will work best for your church (see below for ideas).

Why be a Wycliffe church representative?

God has chosen to work through his people. When we join in with his mission through prayer, God is glorified. We can watch expectantly to see him move in power to do immeasurably more than we ever ask or imagine.

By signing up to be a church representative, we can ensure that you have access to all the resources and support that you need as you help your church to pray for the work of Bible translation.

Who we are looking for

If you are a committed member of your local church and you are passionate about prayer and the vision of Wycliffe, then we’re looking for you!

Here are some ideas to help encourage others in your church to join you in praying for the work of Wycliffe:

  1. Give out copies of Words for Life and Prayers for Life at your church. How about leaving a few copies on a table or by the door. You could mention it in the notices so that people know when a new edition has arrived.
  2. Share a story from Words for Life on your church WhatsApp group or Facebook page. Or in a Sunday service or prayer meeting.
  3. Include a monthly prayer for Bible translation in your church service or bulletin.
  4. Show a video in your small group or church service.
  5. Use our small group resource Life in the Word. You could also suggest it to other small groups in the church.
  6. Use our Sunday school resources for your children’s work.
  7. Start a regular prayer group to pray for the work of Bible translation and those involved.
  8. Run a fundraising event to raise money for Bible translation.
  9. Join our WhatsApp prayer group to be updated on urgent prayer matters. You can then share with your church or small group. 
  10. Invite a Wycliffe speaker to share with your church about how God is at work through Bible translation around the world.
